2025 “Choral Singing for Seniors” Kicks Off with a Warm Gathering

On June 29, 2025, the inaugural session of “Choral Singing for Seniors”, organized by Easycan Media, was successfully held at City Café in the Markham Civic Centre. The event focused on four key pillars: scientific breathing, vocal training, movement exercises, and social interaction, creating a warm, interactive platform that combines health education, artistic expression, and emotional connection for seniors in the community.

Surrounded by greenery and a shimmering lake, the venue featured floor-to-ceiling windows that brought natural light and scenic views indoors, creating a peaceful and open atmosphere. Seniors gathered at sunlit round tables, sipping tea and chatting. Even before the event officially began, the room was already filled with warmth and connection.

The event opened with a touching gesture from community sponsor Lawyer Yan, who personally served traditional Old Beijing zhajiang noodles to guests. This meaningful dish, symbolizing longevity and well-being, was specially prepared for the seniors, evoking nostalgic flavors and delivering heartfelt care.

Next, the special guest—Mr. Allcome Liu, the martial arts instructor for the “Choral Singing for Seniors” program—took the stage to give a performance. He is also the father of Lawyer Yan. Master Liu presented a graceful Baguazhang routine, marked by expansive movements and smooth energy flow, vividly embodying the Tai Chi philosophy of “nurturing health through movement, and finding stillness within motion.” His performance drew waves of applause from the audience.

July Birthday Celebration & Heartwarming Cake-Cutting Ceremony

With Canada Day just around the corner, the organizers specially arranged a birthday celebration for seniors born in July. Ms. Miao Miao and Lawyer Yan took the stage together to offer heartfelt wishes to the celebrants: “On the occasion of our nation’s birthday, may you also share in the joy—wishing you health, longevity, and everlasting smiles.”

A cake-cutting ceremony followed, with Easy Media specially preparing a large birthday cake symbolizing reunion and joy. Guests were invited to join in celebrating the seniors’ birthdays and to take commemorative photos, capturing this warm and memorable moment.

Everyone relaxed their bodies and minds in the singing and laughter, and regained the long-lost vitality

The event then moved into its core teaching session, led by Ms. Miao Miao, a certified instructor from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She conducted a live lesson on diaphragmatic breathing and basic vocal training. With clear and accessible explanations delivered in a warm and engaging manner, she guided participants in mastering breathing rhythms and voice control techniques. Through interactive exercises, seniors were able to relax both body and mind, while also improving lung function. In this cheerful and relaxed atmosphere, participants practiced breathing, sang together, and shared laughter—regaining a long-missed sense of vitality and joy.

Enjoy a light meal

During the following light meal and networking session, the atmosphere remained lively. As the host announced the start of the lucky draw, the event reached its climax. The prize for this draw was admission tickets to the Royal Botanical Gardens.

The selected guests will be invited to join the community’s summer outing on July 10, enjoying the beauty of nature and the joy of greenery.

The thoughtful arrangements brought the event to a perfect close, with continuous laughter during the lucky draw and a warm atmosphere that lasted until the very end.

Although this session has come to an end, the warmth of the community continues to spread. We look forward to gathering once again with more friends—singing, smiling, and standing together in support of seniors’ health and dignity.
