Eligible non-profits, community organizations, municipalities, educational institutions, Indigenous organizations, and relevant public service agencies may apply for funding, with up to $50,000 CAD available per project.

Applications are open from June 2, 2026 to July 14, 2025 at 3:00 pm (EDT).Approved projects may run for up to 52 weeks.

This funding supports community projects that are "designed by seniors, for seniors," aiming to help older adults maintain social connections, participate in community life, reduce feelings of isolation, and improve their quality of life. The government encourages organizations with a primary mission of serving seniors to submit applications.

Eligible projects may entail:

1. Encouraging those of older age to participate in volunteer services;
2. Promoting community participation through mentorship or passing on experience;
3. Raising public awareness regarding elderly abuse, including financial fraud or abuse;
4. Supporting the social participation and community integration for older adults through lectures, interest-based classes, dance classes, cultural activities, storytelling sessions, etc.;
5. Providing necessary support for existing or newly established programs for the elderly by providing equipment or initiating space improvements.

Please note that if the proposed project involves capital expenditures such as equipment procurement or site improvements, the maximum amount of capital assistance funding is $25,000. Additionally, the project must meet the criteria for "Capital Assistance," as well as at least one other project objective highlighted by the NHSP.

Eligible applicant organizations include non-profit organizations, coalitions or ad hoc committees, municipal governments, research institutions, educational institutions, public health and social service agencies, and Indigenous organizations. For-profit enterprises are not eligible to apply.

The program must meet the following conditions:

The project duration must not exceed 52 weeks

The requested funding must not exceed $50,000

The project must align with at least one of the project objectives

Seniors must play a significant role in project planning or implementation

The project must benefit seniors and the community, while demonstrating cost-effectiveness

Application criteria:

Before applying, the organization should first confirm whether it qualifies as an eligible applicant. Generally speaking, the following types of organizations are eligible to apply:

Non-profit organizations, community organizations, seniors' associations, cultural groups, service agencies, Indigenous organizations, municipal governments, research institutions, educational institutions, public health agencies, social service agencies, etc.

Again, for-profit enterprises may not apply.

The proposed project must be related to the elderly. It cannot simply be an event the organization wishes to host, rather one that demonstrates how older adults participate in planning, implementation, and benefit from the projects.

In other words, the application form cannot simply state that "the content of the activity will be determined by the committee following approval." At the time of submission, the government requires that the project already has clearly defined activity content, target participants, implementation methods, and arrangements for the participation of the elderly.

Funding priorities:

NHSP community projects support the following five areas. Applications must meet at least one of these criteria, but ideally two or more:

Encourage the elderly to participate in volunteer services alongside participants of other age groups.
e.g. organizing senior volunteer teams, conducting community visits, assisting elderly new immigrants, or having seniors lead community activities.

Promote community engagement through the passing of knowledge or mentorship, led by the elderly.
e.g. teaching traditional culture, language, handicrafts, music, or talking about their life experiences and lessons.

Raise the issue of elderly abuse to the public.
e.g. hosting anti-fraud seminars, financial security workshops, and awareness campaigns regarding elderly rights

Support community integration for older adults.
e.g. workshops for seniors, health seminars, dance classes, choirs, handicraft workshops, cultural activities, or community gatherings with those from differing age groups.

Procurement of equipment or assisting with space improvements for existing or newly established programs for the elderly.
e.g. purchasing equipment for activities, making accessibility improvements, or renovating community activity spaces. IMPORTANT: if the project involves equipment procurement or space improvements, the capital expenditure cannot exceed $25,000, and the project MUST meet an additional objective.

Required documentation:

Before completing the application, the organization must prepare the following pieces of information:

Official English name of the institution
Must be consistent with registration documents and CRA Business Number information.

CRA Business Number
The applying organization is required to provide a CRA Business Number. For newly registered organizations, a screenshot of the recently created CRA Business Number is also acceptable as supporting documentation.

Proof of Operations
Documentation from the CRA or the provincial government proving that the organization is currently in operation. This documentation must be dated within the last two years.

Project name
Must include keywords related to seniors, community, participation, health, integration, volunteering, and cultural inheritance.

Project overview
Explain the problem the project aims to address, the elderly population it serves, and why the community needs this project.

Event Plan
Clearly outline the specifics of the activities; number of lectures and sessions, number of participating seniors, the venue, and parties responsible for implementation.

Information on senior participation
Must be demonstrated that the elderly are not merely passive participants, but play an active role in the planning, organization, promotion, implementation, or evaluation of the project.

Project budget
List every expense item (e.g. venue, instructors, materials, equipment, publicity, transportation, volunteer support, administrative costs, etc.)

Quotes
Any work related to renovations, repairs, or equipment installation often require a contractor's quotation that must be dated within the past year.

Letter of Consent from the province/region of operation
Required only in certain special cases and often not for routine community activities. However, if the project involves provincial or regional approval, that must be done so in advance.

Constructing a comprehensive project brief:

It is recommended to design a thorough outline of the project.

The brief can be written like so:

Project name: Elderly Community Integration and Health Participation Program

Target audience: Local seniors aged 65 and older, particularly those living alone, recent immigrants, and those facing language barriers.

Project duration: Spring 2027 to Winter 2027, not exceeding 52 weeks.

Project activities: Monthly community classes, health seminars, cultural events, volunteer services, and intergenerational exchange activities.

Roles of the elderly: Participating in project planning, serving as volunteers, assisting with promotion, sharing experiences, and leading activities.

Project objectives: Reduce feelings of isolation among the elderly by increasing their community participation and raising awareness of health and safety.

Performance metrics: Number of seniors served, number of activities held, number of volunteers trained, and establishment of a long-term network for senior activities.

Avoid being overly vague; the more specific a project is, the easier it is to evaluate. Though listing general concepts like "improving quality of life" or "fostering communication" are acceptable, it is recommended to connect them to concrete activities and measurable outcomes.

How to estimate funding:

Rather than listing an amount, it's recommended to divide costs into categories, allocating the budget to event contents:

Venue costs: activity rooms, community centers, lecture venues, etc.

Instructor or tutor fees: lectures, art classes, dance classes, seminars, etc.

Activity material costs: craft materials, classroom supplies, printed materials, etc.

Publicity costs: posters, flyers, community outreach, website postings, etc.

Equipment costs: sound systems, projectors, computers, tables, chairs, specific activity gear, etc.

Transportation or accessibility support: to assist seniors with limited mobility, provide direct access to venues, etc.

Administrative and coordination costs: project coordinators, registration management, volunteer arrangements, etc.

Keep in mind that despite applying for $50,000, it does not imply that the entire budget must be used. The budget should be reasonable and clear, with justifications explaining why each expense is necessary.

If there are costs related to equipment or renovations, pay special attention to the limit of $25,000 on capital expenditures. Furthermore, the budget must not consist solely of equipment purchases or renovation work—it must still serve community activities for seniors.

Application submission:

Applications must be submitted via the federal government's Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) system.

The procedure is as follows:

1.
